Support dogs

Sister Sophia Peters, FSE, Executive Director; Sister John Mary Sullivan, FSE, Director; Officer Stephanie Masella, Dog Handler; Bear and John, were recent guests at the Franciscan Life Center. Officer Masella, from the Meriden Police Department, gave a presentation to the clinical staff on the role of her service dog, John. She travels throughout the State of Connecticut to be present to situations and persons in need of comfort in their most vulnerable moments. John and Bear visit schools and colleges, nursing homes, court rooms, and homes, to be a source of comfort and peace in trying and often terrifying situations, especially with children. The calming and grounding presence of these highly trained comfort dogs can be more effective than words. Thank you, Meriden Police Department for offering this effective instrument of support and comfort in our State.
